Reunited

I have finally been reunited with my sewing machine! I actually got a quilt top done yesterday! Whoo hoo! Actually, turns out I got 2 done.

(For some reason I can't get blogger to link so you can make the image larger, so I'll just have to tell you about it. The blue strips have cute bees and pink flowers on a gingham background; the yellow and white both have blue polkadots (or as Little J would say, polkanots:)

To begin at the, well, the beginning: Grandma has something like 14 Great-Grand babies, and no baby blankets at her house. She also has a network of friends a mile wide and it isn't unheard of to have random children, or neice and nephew's babies around as well. So, all in all, she needed a blanket for the little ones.

Enter the eldest Grandchild (that would be me). Grams had also made the comment that here Mom and I quilt and yet she doesn't have a quilt from either of us! Well that just settled it then, didn't it? A quilt was in order. Here is the bad part, though: I had her pick out the fabrics and bought them... IN JANUARY! I feel bad that I'm just getting to it now, but I am getting there, so I guess I'll forgive myself:)

So, this is how it gets to two quilts. I cut the strips for the front, and managed to double the number needed. In the end I decided to use the cut strips to piece the back, and bought a coordinating blue; once I got it done, however, and the two sides being pieced seemed to be too much. My mission today is to buy backing for both, and get at least hers done. I'm gonna keep the second, and add a border to make it a full size blanket for my kids.

I also cut the fabric for one of my PIF gifts; I'm gonna try to get those done in the next few weeks as well. I should sit down tonight a write a list of all I have to do and what I'd like to get done before the summer semester starts. Well, I suppose I should put that on my to-do-list:)-

2 down, 1 to go!

Well, 2 of my classes are done, my last final is tomorrow!! Hopefully this means two things, first that I can sew more, and second, that I can blog more! In the last month it's been a bit hectic round here, and I'm estatic to finally be getting back to a calmer life. After tomorrow I get two blissful weeks of having nothing to do, followed by a week at my Grandparents, and then it's back to school mid-June. Whoo-hoo!

Anyway, through all the school work and the sicknesses I did manage to make Little J a dress; it's reception was lukewarm at first, but I think she warmed up to it:)

It's just a shift type dress, and it looked darling with the red tights she wore. I've got another all cut out, and plan on making it (and a few others) before we end up in the southern Utah heat.

So, to those that have hung with me during my month long study/puke-fest, I thank you:)
